2019 Sermons
Life is complicated. Smart devices are sold to help us manage our busy schedules. Watches can now give you messages on the fly. With just a few spoken words to Alexa, music can be played over wireless speakers. Lights can be switched on, off, or dimmed. Doors can be locked or unlocked, garages opened or closed, with a few swipes of the finger. Wow, life has gotten complicated!
With all these demands in your life, consider simplifying your life and committing to fewer, more important tasks. What can be more important than your soul? Commit fully to God in 2019 and the effect on your life will be significant. Huuuge. Monumental!
Lord willing, these sermons will encourage, challenge, and draw you nearer to God who loves you so much!

Committed to Endurance
Anyone can sprint for a short period of time, however our Christian life is not a sprint, but a marathon. This lesson looks at Jesus commissioning his 12 disciples to go out and preach. He would not be with them, but certainly encouraged them for the task at hand. Listen here to learn more about being committed to endurance.

Committed to the Task
No commitment to a task usually means no follow through on that task. When we look at Jesus we see Him completely committed to leaving heaven, coming to this earth and dying for the sins of mankind. What great commitment! When we see the sacrifice of Christ, it should motivate us to be committed in our life. Listen here to learn more.

Committed to Grace
It has been said that pictures are worth a thousand words. I would argue that word pictures accomplish the same purpose. In this week's sermon, we look at how Paul uses a word picture to drive a point home about Grace. In the allegory of the olive tree, Paul shows how Jew and Gentile have both been grafted in to one "tree". Both need God's grace. Maybe we can learn about God's grace too. Listen here to learn more!

Committed to Pursuing God
David was called "A man after God's own heart." Why? He messed up (a lot). He struggled with anger. He committed adultery. He plotted murder. How is this man "after God's own heart?" Listen here to learn why David is described by God in this way. David was not perfect, but he did continue to pursue God and not give up.

Committed to Hope
Sometimes hope is hard to see. This week, we look at the book of Ruth and see hope in the life of Naomi. At the end of the day, she had hope, even though all looked bleak. Ruth, Naomi and Boaz are all central characters in this book, and this sermon explores these characters and lessons we can learn from them. Ultimately, we learn that Jesus Christ gives us hope in our lives!

Committed to Righteousness in Every Direction
There are typically three possible outcomes for every decision: Compliance, Commitment, or Rejection. True Christianity involves compliance, but does not stop there. Rather, it goes beyond compliance and is found in commitment. The book of Colossians shows us that commitment is reasonable. Listen here to learn more.

Committed to a Righteous Direction (pt 7)
What direction will you take in life? Is every direction you consider taking a good direction?
God shows us through Peter's words that our direction matters. Because it matters, God has blessed His people with leadership that should guide them in the best direction possible. Leadership should...
*Help me become righteous, and stay righteous
*Help keep me firm in my faith

Committed to Righteousness in Action (pt 6)
Inaction costs dearly. Just as Joe Paterno who was fired for not doing enough to report Jerry Sandusky for indecent acts with minors.
In this sermon, we see how Peter challenges Christians to take their faith seriously, to take challenges in stride, and to think about their expectations they have for their faith.

Committed to Personal Righteousness (pt 5)
What is the difference between someone backing into "a" car or "your" car? Does it make a difference if you kiss "a" wife or "your" wife? Absolutely! The difference is that one is "yours" and it is personal. The point...Jesus isn't just "a" savior, he is "your" savior. Unless our righteousness becomes very personal, your religion may only remain on the surface. We are challenged in this sermon to take our righteousness deeper, and allow it to become personal.

Committed to Righteousness (pt 3)
If we are truly to live for righteousness, what would that look like? Peter has some practical lessons on what areas of life righteousness will reach. This lesson reminds us that
1) Righteousness can be evident to others
2) Righteousness extends towards those in charge...even in politics
3) Righteousness must extend into the workplace
4) Righteousness must extend into our marriages

Committed to Righteousness
Does religious equal righteous? What I mean is...if I am a religious person does that also mean that I am a righteous person in God's sight? Does spiritual equal saved? What I mean here is...all spiritual people are save people, right?
First Peter was a letter in the New Testament written to Christians scattered outside of the area of Jerusalem. Many factors caused these Christians to live and work outside of the area that where the church was first born, Jerusalem. These Christians were facing tough challenges and even suffering for their faith. Yet, Peter points out that they are called to "live righteous" lives. How did they do that? How do we do that? This sermon begins a sermon series on the concept of righteousness. Listen here to learn more.

Committed to Service (Pt 3)
It has been said that service is easy. I can go to a food ban or a homeless shelter and serve for a few hours, then go back to the comfort of my own home, but is that what we are called towards? Might I suggest that we are called more to be servants than just do service. Servants always serve, whereas service might be something I turn on or off...like a light switch.
This sermon seeks to explore specific ways some might serve as servants, like in being deacons, as well as more general ways that all Christians are called to serve as servants. Listen here to learn more!

Committed to Service (Pt 1)
The church at Foristell is working towards identifying, selecting, and installing deacons. This is a first for us, and the elders want to do it right. For this reason the elders selected the text of Acts 6 as a launching point for a few sermons on service. View this video as we consider how we can all serve in the Lord's kingdom and how the church grew as a result of that service.

At the end of the day, Jesus shows great care for his mother, Mary. In addition it appears as if Jesus tries to spare her from additional pain and agony of seeing her son die on the cross by entrusting her to John's care. At the end of the day, we need to learn that Jesus cares for us and wants to spare us from extra pain that this world might throw at us.
